LEWISTON, Maine (AP) — Church bells rang Sunday as Maine residents gathered at somber and sometimes joyful services to pray and support one another following a traumatic week in which a fellow Mainer gunned down 18 people in the worst mass killing in state history.The Rev. Daniel Greenleaf began services at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Lewiston with a moment of silence. Then, he told the congregation that it was good to be able to finally pray together after days of lockdown imposed while police searched for the 40-year-old gunman Robert Card.The body of Card was found Friday in a trailer at a recycling center in Lisbon Falls. Hurricane Otis death toll climbs to 43 in Mexico

(CNN) — At least 43 people have died after powerful Hurricane Otis tore through southern Mexico’s Guerrero state as a devastating Category 5 storm last week, the region’s governor said Sunday.The deceased victims include 33 men and 10 women, Gov. (CNN) — The US Food and Drug Administration is warning parents against buying a brand of fruit puree pouches for their children after the snacks were found to have high levels of lead, the agency said.Lead was found in WanaBana apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches, which are sold nationally at multiple retailers, including Sam’s Club, Amazon and Dollar Tree, the FDA said.“Parents and caregivers of toddlers and young children who may have consumed WanaBana apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches should contact their child’s healthcare provider about getting a blood test,” the FDA said.Lead is toxic to humans and exposure to the substance can lead to developmental delays in children. St. Catharines man charged after threatening university students

An 18-year-old St. Catharines man is in custody for allegedly threatening three Brock University students with a gun on Saturday.Niagara police say just before 6 p.m. the suspect went to the university campus located on Sir Isaac Brock Way to confront three other people over a previous dispute. It was then that he allegedly threatened them while displaying what appeared to be a handgun.The three students fled for their safety and locked themselves inside a dormitory until police arrived. Neither suffered any physical injuries as a result of the confrontation.Just after 7 p.m. police went to a home in north St. Catharines and arrested the suspect without incident. Investigators recovered a replica pellet gun during a search of the residence.Dante Palumbo of St. Catharines has been charged with possession of a weapon, uttering threats and criminal harassment.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The start of the commercial Dungeness crab season in California has been delayed for the sixth year in a row to protect humpback whales from becoming entangled in trap and buoy lines.The state Department of Fish and Wildlife said commercial crabbing will be delayed until at least Dec. 1. The situation will be reassessed on or before Nov. 17.It’s the latest delay for the start of the commercial season, which traditionally begins in mid-November for waters between the Mendocino county line and the border with Mexico.“Large aggregations of humpback whales continue to forage between Bodega Bay and Monterey and allowing the use of crab traps would increase the risk of an entanglement in those fishing zones,” said Fish and Wildlife Director Charlton H.
