LOSAIL, Qatar (AP) — Max Verstappen underlined why he’s on the verge of a third consecutive Formula One title as he qualified on pole for the Qatar Grand Prix on Friday. He can clinch the title in Saturday’s sprint race.Verstappen set a commanding time early in the third and last session of qualifying and bailed out of his final run after his car slid off the racing line. It didn’t matter as George Russell could only manage a time .441 seconds slower than Verstappen as he qualified second. His Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton was third, .527 off the pace.Verstappen can secure the title with at least a sixth-place finish in the sprint Saturday. DENVER (KDVR) -- Closing arguments are set for Tuesday in the trial of two officers charged in relation to Elijah McClain's death.During court on Friday, the prosecution rested its case against the officers and, during a time period when jurors were out of the room, the defense petitioned to have the charges dismissed.The judge denied that request, and when court resumed, the defense rested without calling any witnesses.Since the trial began, the case has not been tried on Mondays. That will continue next week, with closing arguments set for Tuesday. A man accused of posing as a rideshare driver is going to remain behind bars after, police said, he terrorized two tourists in Miami Beach.Thirty-nine-year-old Alejandro Yadir Gongora was denied bond in a hearing held on Friday.The judge’s decision comes days after Gongora’s arrest for sexual battery and strong-arm robbery.Surveillance cameras captured part of the alleged crime on Sept. 30.Investigators said the ordeal began in Wynwood, when the the two women hopped into a black SUV thinking it was their ride.According to the arrest report, the victims told detectives that at one point during their ride, Gongora stopped the SUV, took a purse from one of the women and sexually battered the other.Following a struggle, the arrest report states, the SUV headed to the victims’ hotel.Surveillance video captured them arriving to the 800 block of Collins Avenue. Bus driver arrested for leaving sleeping child onboard while running errands, police say

A South Florida bus driver has been arrested and charged with child neglect after allegedly leaving a four-year-old female child unattended on a school bus while running errands, officials said.According to the arrest report, Elizabeth Carrero, 33, of Miami Gardens picked up the child and 11 others for school at approximately 7:30 a.m on Sept. 19. After dropping off the children, the report states Carrero allegedly drove to various locations, including the bank and a mechanic for her vehicle’s air filter, all while the young girl was unknowingly asleep in the bus. Carrero then returned home and made breakfast.Around 11:00 a.m., a neighbor noticed the child getting off the bus, drenched in sweat, and alerted Carrero who then ontacted the child’s parents to retrieve her.Carrero was arrested and taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Thursday without incident.

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Brightline train in Pompano Beach.7Skyforce hovered over the scene, located at the intersection of East Copans Road and North Dixie Highway, at around 3:45 p.m. Friday.A yellow tarp covering the body was seen next to the train tracks, as well as a heavy police presence.
