RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina State safety Rakeim Ashford won’t play this weekend against No. 13 Notre Dame after he was taken off the field on a stretcher during the season-opening win at Connecticut, coach Dave Doeren said Monday.Ashford spent Thursday night in the hospital for tests before being released on Friday and returning to Raleigh. Doeren said Ashford will play again, but the timetable is uncertain.“He’s probably going to need at least a week probably to shake that one off,” Doeren said. “I would equate that to a whiplash-type thing, so he’s pretty sore. We’ve just got to get the soreness out and get him back to who he was. Search called off after body of missing Md. swimmer found in surf off Rehoboth Beach

Police in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, have called off the search for a Maryland man, who went missing in the water over the weekend, after finding his body in the surf early Monday morning.In an update on Facebook, Rehoboth police said the body of 31-year-old Richard Boateng was discovered in the surf just before 6 a.m. Monday near Ocean Drive and Fairview Road in the North Shores community.Members of the police department, Delaware State Parks and the volunteer fire department responded to the scene, as well as paramedics, who positively identified the body as Boateng.Authorities are now conducting a death investigation, but say no foul play is suspected.Boateng, of Savage, Maryland, in Howard County, was last seen swimming in the ocean surf an the area of Rehoboth Avenue on Sunday evening at about 5:45 p.m.Police received multiple 911 calls about Boateng’s disappearance, triggering a search-and-rescue effort that included the U.S. Coast Guard.Boateng went missing in the water ...

DC man arrested in connection with stabbing on Green Line Metro train

A D.C. man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing on a Metro Train in Navy Yard on Sunday, Metro Transit Police said.Police said the man was taken into custody with the assistance of Arlington County Police Monday morning without incident. He will be charged with assault with intent to kill.The man is accused of stabbing a woman on board a Green Line Train at the Navy Yard Metro Station just before 6 p.m.Officials said she is being treated for critical injuries.WMATA officers said the Half Street entrance to the metro station was closed while police were on the scene, and trains were single tracking between Navy Yard and Anacostia.Trains began running normally, and the station reopened within an hour of closing.A map of the approximate location is included below. A driver crashed into a Denny’s near Houston, injuring 23 people

Rosenberg, TX (AP) — A driver plowed through a wall of a busy East Texas restaurant, injuring 23 people.Police in the Houston suburb of Rosenberg, Texas said a man crashed his SUV into a Denny’s restaurant just off the highway late Monday morning. The vehicle slammed into the restaurant’s south wall leaving patrons with injuries ranging from minor cuts to “severe injuries” that don’t appear to be life-threatening, police said in a statement. Victims ranged in age from 12 to 60 years old.The driver of the SUV was not injured, police said. The cause of the crash was not immediately released.Video of the aftermath shows a red vehicle fully inside the restaurant, with the wall and windows around it demolished.

Man found dead, pinned under vehicle in West Miami-Dade

The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) is investigating the death of a man found pinned underneath a vehicle in West Miami-Dade, Monday afternoon.Police arrived at the scene, located in the 1300 block of SW 122 Avenue, just after 1:30 p.m., and found an unresponsive adult male trapped beneath a vehicle. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived at the scene and confirmed the man’s demise.MDPD Homicide detectives have taken charge of the investigation.
