It should go without saying that if 911 doesn’t work properly, lives are at risk. Unifor contract with Ford set to expire tonight as negotiations continue

TORONTO — Unifor’s contract with Ford Motor Co. is set to expire at 11:59 p.m. ET tonight.The union is negotiating with Ford in hopes of reaching an agreement that can be used as a blueprint for workers at General Motors and Stellantis. Unifor has said it is focused on improving pensions, increasing wages and securing good jobs in a future set to be dominated by electric vehicles. Unifor members at Ford have voted 98.9 per cent in favour of a strike if the bargaining committee fails to secure a new collective agreement. The talks continue as autoworkers represented by the United Auto Workers in the United States are on the picket line.Some 13,000 U.S. autoworkers started striking last week, targeting a plant at each of the Detroit Three automakers. This report by The Canadian Press was first published  Sept. 18, 2023.The Canadian Press

CHICAGO — A 25-year-old man was killed after being struck by a vehicle following a motorcycle crash on Lake Shore Drive.The accident happened around 11:36 p.m. Sunday on the 3600 block of North Lake Shore Drive. Police said the man was traveling northbound on a motorcycle when he lost control and struck a guard rail.The 25-year-old landed in the southbound lanes and was struck by a passing vehicle. He was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. 4 people, including 2 children, found fatally shot in Romeoville The man's identity has not yet been released.The Major Accidents Unit is investigating the crash.

The Violet Crown City Church in north Austin, Texas, hosted a Sunday service entirely created by AI. Pastor Jay Cooper said he used ChatGPT, whose technology can respond to questions and create a variety of content, such as articles, essays and emails. "ChatGPT kicked out about a 15-minute service, like a shotgun sermon, an outline," Cooper said. "It's very clear that a human element is still needed. I had to fill out the service with additional prompts and add a couple prompts to the sermon to kind of beef it up." Metro drivers working overtime amid labor shortage
